*Update 9/6/8 - Looks like Ike is going south and we will be spared a direct hit. Phew!
The latest forecast cones have Fort Lauderdale (MY HOME) right in the path of hurricane Ike. Can I just say I’m a little VERY nervous?
I was shaking in my boots during my first major hurricane experience of Wilma!
I didn’t mind not having power for 2 weeks that much. Actually, I rather enjoyed hanging my clothes out to dry on a make-shift line and finding activities that didn’t involve vegging out in front of the TV.
I felt like a kid all over again after hurricane Wilma.
Going to bed by candle light was the only option and so was waking up on time at sunrise. There is something to be said for simplicity or the lack of technology.
Don’t get me wrong - I’m a fan of the internets and iphone apps but sometimes I wonder what life might be like with out all the facts and opinions.
I found that a good ol “Ctrl - Z” on the day-to-day life does wonders for your soul. I wish we didn’t have so many distractions. We are all pulled in a multitude of directions including: entertainment, technology. our environment, politics and more. Sometimes I wish I lived in a time full of dirt-roads and horse-drawn carriages, when people talked to each other more instead of texting.
That’s what hurricanes remind me of… Yep, the storm sucks but the aftermath is to be embraced. I don’t mind roughing it. I find it refreshing and it makes me appreciate what I have all that much more.
The aftermath and hardship I can handle with a huge smile… But the storm itself scares the ever living geebies out of me.
So please, Ike… Play nice.

Hehe, it’s shifted off of Fort Lauderdale now, landfall would put it south of Miami. We’ll see what happens. Hurricane party is on tho!

Egh. I don’t think it’s going to be as big as Hurricane Andrew. Definitely glad I didn’t set out for the Caribbean this year.

Hey, Larissa & Chris, it’s pretty quiet in France.
You’re welcome !

Larissa, batten down the hatches and stay safe. We in New York are expecting one of those hurricanes to come our way.
My relatives live near you and are also preparing.

It may not be heading for Florida, but spare a thought for those fleeing Galveston. Poor people. It’s windy here in Portugal today but calm. You’re all invited :)
