As part of blog action day I am participating by posting something that relates to the environment on this day, October 15th, 2007. The aim is to get people thinking, discussing, questioning and talking about the environment, from every angle, niche, viewpoint and personality.

Hello from Quebec City. Your posting is very timely. We are just completing a 12 cruise up the New England/Canada coast and it was amazing how every port had some environmental education or activity going on. In Halifax several of the small Smartcars were being raffled off with donations to their environmental projects.
We had already moved away from the water bottles and gone to the canvas bags (but the wife liked your selection better).

I live north of Toronto, and the grocery store I use gives a credit if you use your own bags. They also sell them for $1 (and they’re not bad looking: black canvas with a green bottle on it). Very roomy (I averaged 5-7 plastic bags per grocery trip, now I rarely use more than my 4.5 bags — one of them is half the size of the others) and much more durable than plastic.
I do still keep around some plastic bags for cleaning the litter box (I reuse the bag until it tears). Our kitty litter is made from crushed corn, so it’s safe for flushing.
I like the idea of the Sigg bottles, but I still haven’t found a proper replacement for my plastic 34oz thermal travel cup. I’ve yet to find anything that has a comparable capacity, is thermal, and has a wide enough mouth to stuff it full of ice.
