4 Years Old in 1982

Me (about 1) and my older brother
One of the best parts of going home for the holidays is digging through old family photos. In an effort to save some of the memories before the paper disintegrates, I scanned a few of them and uploaded to Flickr.

Opa & Omi
I am especially enchanted with the story of my Mom’s parents (my grandparents) because they survived World War II and each had only one leg. My grandmother and grandfather met in rehabilitation camp and both suffered some extraordinary hardships but managed to raise 5 kids and provide a colorful life for their family.
My mother grew up in a 2 bedroom apartment with her 4 siblings. That means there was 7 people living in a 2 bedroom apartment in Germany. I am amazed to look back at how far we have come and remind myself that when I “might” be having a bad day, I’m lucky compared to what my Grandparents have endured.
See all the photos I scanned on Flickr.

MINDstyle’s SCAVENGERS by Kathie Olivas — one of the hottest mini figure series of the year; setting new standards for art toy collectibles. The quality, detailing and coloring are amazing and the box design is impressive.
This series was Inspired by early American portraiture that often depicted children as small adults in an idealized new land, the characters parallel this vision within their own sense of post-apocalyptic conformity, uniquely documenting their own stories in a mysterious brave new world.

When I got home today, I was really excited to see my package had finally arrived with a whole case of the Scavengers (series 2 - by Kathie Olivas).

I carefully opened all 15 blind-boxes, each one with dreamy hopes that it would be the super-rare FERNANDO CHASE FIGURE!!! It was in the last blind-box I opened and is in the center of the above photo.
I got the whole set from series 2 and am soooo excited because I love her art. Do you want to start collecting? You can buy them from Pink Ghost.

I posed this question on twitter and got some interesting answers…
- “Obama is DEFINITELY a Mac. It would surely be wrong to think of him any other way!” - masey
- “Obama is a Hybrid Mac” - USDman
- “Obama is neither Mac nor PC. Obama is LCARS.” - peterkirn
- “He’s Linux. A time for change!” - smallinson
- “Mac 100% - He didn’t crash under the strain;)” - Designfeedr
- “Easy… a Mac. Is McCain a PC or a Typewriter?” - jonathancrowe
- “here’s a post that suggests he’s the next vista” - johnpwooton
- “Mac, Target, BMW and Google according to Landor ” - juanmateixido
- “Obama is a black Macbook.” - qeek
- “Definitely a Mac; I like to think he is anyway.” - milesdowsett
- “he’s clearly a mac. Or he’s firefox.” - assaultapparel
What do you think?
(Oh, and by the way. I’m a PC.)

Heidi Kenney’s Yummy Donut keychains by KidRobot that is! And I’m a huge fan of the Yummy Breakfast collection as well. I just completed both collections and have them on display at work. This was after an eBay debacle and some neighbor had stolen my mail and 2 keychains. Miraculously they were eventually returned and now my collections are complete!
Both of these are BlindBox collections which means you don’t know what you’re gonna get when you buy one so it gives you the “I have a golden ticket syndrome” just like in Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It’s easy to get addicted to buying these things in hopes you get a rare one and complete your set.
When you purchase blind assortment figures they come packaged in identical boxes. The boxes are the same in every way and you can not see what is inside! On the side of the boxes will be a list of different possible figures. The chances of you getting a particular figure are listed as percentage rates on the side of the box. These percentage rates are based on a sealed carton of figures. As you can see, some figures are harder to get than others.
