Chris Fullman did a live blog a while back and as I was leaving work we thought it would be fun to Live Blog Dirt premiering on FX tonight. So here I am… Sorry if it’s disjointed.
SPOILER - I might spoil it for ya if you haven’t seen it yet.
10:01 pm EST - AH HA!!! Red dress from the commercials. Yeah she looks amazing… will it be as good as Nip Tick?
10:02 pm EST - Wow, Courtney Cox looks amazing in red… the slow calculated sip of the martini… “You’re amazing”… Credits Continue. I wish I could type faster and better without looking. Thank god for spell check and auto-correct.
10:10 pm EST - Is it just me? But I can’t stop thinking Joey or Chandler will walk into the room at any moment. A dozen ugly celebrity butt shots… wow… who has a perfect butt anyway, unless you’re 19. I wish I was 19 again, but knew what I know now.
10:14 pm EST - I remember the flash bulbs of the red carpet when my show was on. It’s a thrill and weird. The photographers yell your name like they know you, like they care. They don’t; they just want the one shot they can sell.
10:17 pm EST - It’s hard to watch TV and type at the same time. Stop laughing at me Fullman… You are a better writer than I. Focus, Larissa… FOCUS!!!!

Today I received a call from CNN (via Bikini.com’s Howie Sonennschein) because CNN Headline News wanted to interview someone who had competed in Miss USA with a background in the system. Joining me was, Jennifer Murphey, Miss Oregon USA 2004.
After thinking a bit more about all this, I was starting to become a bit suspicious about the timing for this public bashing of Tara Connor. A new season of Apprentice is just around the corner and because Trump owns the pageant I can’t help but wonder if this was let out of the bag with other publicity factors in tow.
Here is my take. I personally have no idea if the allegations are true but if they are… shame on me.
Being Miss USA is full time job. All contestants get a contract which tells you what your responsibilities are. If the allegations are true and Miss USA was out partying too much and it affected her obligations, that’s not okay. There are a ton of great girls who have worked really hard and would love the opportunity to do good with the year as Miss USA. It opens a TON of doors and brings awareness to many charitable organizations such as Breast Cancer Awareness.
Bottom line… It is a job. And like any job where you come in wasted or you miss your obligations because you were on drugs or hung over, you probably won’t be keeping that job for long.
When you take on this role, I think you should be held to higher standards. You are a role model. Miss USA not only represents her state, she represents our country and hopefully will make good choices. They also asked if pageants were too “old fashioned” and I say no. I think society has changed and Jennifer Murphey made a great point about how the Pageants have changed to stay up to date.
I know we all make mistakes, but I think if there are not repercussions that we are in essence just looking the other way and saying it’s okay to make bad decisions. Your choices have impacts and repercussions are meant to make you learn from your bad choices. Life goes on.
I’m not saying Tara is a bad person but that her choices may have been bad. I’m sure she also gets invited to all kinds of cool parties and has had a lot of pressure to live it up. That’s what Hollywood dreams seems to be about these days. It’s true that a lot of deals and opportunities are made during social outings.
The inherit problem lies with the appeal of the entertainment industry becoming what it has and our desensitization as a society as to what we view as acceptable behavior. Lately it seems like a lot of celebs become even more popular and their careers soar after making stupid choices.
And a lot of kids drink underage and experiment with drugs but at what point do we say it’s not okay? Why do people cheer when they hear she was seen making out with Miss Teen USA? It creeps me out.
Do you think we should look the other way?

The last episode of project runway was pretty exciting. It’s my favorite show on TV right now. It reminds me of being in art school. Warning: spoilers ahead.
In the last episode the designers had the challenge of creating a dress for Miss USA to compete in at Miss Universe. It always cracks me up when people refer to the “pageant type”. Especially when girls in pageants are like: “I’m not the typical pageant girl”. (Yeah I think I was guilty of saying the same thing once too.)
If you’re in a pageant you will find yourself doing “pageanty” things - like practicing your wave and putting Vaseline on your teeth sorta categorizes you as a “pageant girl”. We all do this stuff. When I was at Miss USA there even was a girl who wore plastic wrap on her thighs the whole time thinking it would make her skinnier. I still think pageants are a great opportunity for women but sometimes we pageant girls try to get away from the fact that it’s a pageant like we are in denial of what it really is. It’s a beauty competition where personality and confidence win in the end.
Back to Project Runway. The challenge was to design a dress for Miss USA. At the end of the show I wasn’t particularly in love with any of the dresses and ,in part, I think the designers went for the “stereotypical” idea of what they think a pageant dress should be. I wanted to see more runway and less pageant. I won’t give away the winner if you haven’t seen the episode but I wasn’t surprised who won.
I’ll be interested to see if Miss USA actually wears this dress and to see how much alterations have been made. I wish all of the dresses had a bit more glitz.

I have an art class on Tuesday nights so I don’t get to watch the Revenge of the Average Joe’s live.
The best part of episode 2 was the sea lion barking at the guys. I loved the faces they were making at the sea lion.
The worst part was when the hunks came in. Yeah I know some of your are wanting to yell “Hypocrite”, but I felt like it was totally staged. How can I say it nicely? I can’t. It was super-cheese. I know my show was cheese but I have to say this set up just had me laughing out the door. You see the hot guys walking up behind the Aj’s all being played out with fireworks and slow motion shots, barf. Then all of a sudden, they are all in 1 PERFECT ROW - just staring into each other eyes? WEIRD!
This isn’t the fault of any of the guys on the show, it’s the demand of formulated reality TV and getting a good angle. But from my experience so much is controlled that it’s not “reality”. The emotions in the moment are real but the situation is not.
Anyway, I’m rather impressed with Anna. She seems quite nice.
